Physical layer

The Physical Layer is the first and lowest layer that we meet in the seven layer OSI model of computer networking. The implementation of this layer is often termed PHY. It consists of the basic hardware transmission technologies of a network. So we can say that this fundamental layer underlying the logical data structures of the higher level functions in a network. However physical layer is responsible for the ultimate transmission of data over network communications media. It operates with data in the form of bits that are sent from the physical layer of the sending source device and received at the Physical layer of the destination device. The Physical layer is sending bits from one computer to another. This layer gets the bits from point A to point B, using whatever kind of optical, electrical or wireless connection that connects the points which is a physical medium.
